 Community Prevention Coordinator

Paul First Nation Health Service - Now Hiring​

Location: Duffield, Alberta (Treaty 6 Territory)

Position Summary:  Reporting to he Health Director, the Community Prevention Coordinator will develop and implement strategies to reduce, educate and raise awareness about human trafficking, exploitation and sexual violence against women, girls and 2S+ people.  This role emphasizes community engagement, training, prevention and improving knowledge of victim services and the justice system.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Coordinate and lead community discussions to identify awareness and education needs, and promote prevention strategies utilizing trauma-informed, victim-centered, and culturally safe approaches.

  • Collaborate with frontline services, educators, knowledge keepers, and community partners to create educational resources, workshops and enhance support for survivors.

  • Facilitate community dialogues and lead awareness campaigns promoting evidence-based, and culturally respectful messaging.

  • Establish and nurture relationships with stakeholders and organizations for long-term collaboration and collective advocacy.

  • Ensure community engagement activities are accessible, inclusive and grounded in reconciliation and partnership.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree or experience in Indigenous Studies, Community Development, Social Work or related field.

  • Experience with community engagement and Indigenous relations.

  • Valid provincial class 5 driver’s license.

 

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Understanding of human trafficking, gender-based violence, and the impacts of colonization and intergenerational trauma.

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approaches.

  • Excellent community engagement, presentation, and facilitation skills.

  • Experience developing communications materials and delivering training programs.

  • Familiarity with the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls calls for justice.

Required Abilities and Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.

  • Builds trust and authentic partnerships, respects and understands diverse perspectives and upholds confidentiality.

  • Encourages teamwork, communication, and shared learning.

  • Demonstrates initiative and identifies new opportunities for community engagement.

 

Preferred:  Indigenous ancestry, Stoney/Cree language ability, or lived experience as a survivor.

Work Conditions:  Flexible schedule, interactions with at-risk individuals, some travel required.

 

Employment Requirements:  Criminal Record & Vulnerable Sector Checks, Child Welfare check, valid driver’s license, Oath of Confidentiality.
