POSITION SUMMARY
The Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations (CT6FN) is a non-profit Political and Treaty Organization (PTO) that has been mandated by the Chiefs and Elders of Treaty No.6 to advocate, protect, and enhance Treaty rights by monitoring legislation and policies that affect Treaty rights.
The Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations (CT6FN) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Patient Advocate to join our Health Team within the Policy and Planning Group. This is an opportunity to work closely with the Member Nations of Treaty No. 6, contributing to the advancement of health-related policies and initiatives that align with the strategic objectives of the Confederacy.

Responsibilities
-
Assist clients in voicing complaints, accessing cultural supports, and pursuing resolution when experiencing discrimination or unsafe care.

Identify systemic barriers, patterns of discrimination, and recurring issues in client experiences.

Document and report trends to inform internal and external policy recommendations.

Participate in working groups, committees, and consultations aimed at improving Indigenous health policies and protocols.

Collaborate with Treaty Six Chiefs, technicians and external partners to support advocacy strategies that promote culturally safe and equitable care.

Contributes to the development of organizational policies related to patient rights, cultural safety, and complaint resolution.

Build relationships with health care providers, social service agencies, Elders, and cultural knowledge holders.

Develop community-based education and awareness campaigns about patient rights and culturally safe care.

Maintain confidential client files and advocacy documentation.
Educations, Qualifications, and Work Experience

Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related filed, i.e., Social Work, First Nations governance, humanities (English, history, psychology, political science).

Equivalencies may be considered based on one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

Lived experience and/or strong understanding of the challenges Indigenous people face when accessing health systems.

Minimum 2 years of experience in a client-facing role (e.g., health navigator, outreach worker, case manager, social support worker).

Dependability and strong work ethic.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interpret material and policies for general and First Nation audiences.

Knowledge of indigenous health issues, cultural competence, and sensitivity to the needs of diverse populations.

Strong communication skills, including active listening, verbal articulation, and written correspondence.

Proficiency in using computer applications and databases for documentation and record-keeping.

Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment.

The ability to communicate in one of the affiliated First Nations of the Confederacy (Cree, Nakoda, Dene, Saulteaux) is a definite asset.

Preference will be give to Treaty Six First Nation Members.
